Before I begin on this article, I have to mention that I accidentally found Tiger, Tiger because I was doing some research on last week's review of Tiger! Tiger!.
Although I realized this was a different band, I did noticed that he was giving away free CDs, so I wrote and requested a review copy.
Since there's no biography, and everything about Tiger, Tiger
is a mystery. I'm going to make a guess and tell you that it's really
the work of one person, experimenting with music and art, using his
computer.
Well the only thing I can be sure is that he seems really shy and currently based out of Minneapolis.
In contrast to Roisin's album, where as her songs can be taken out of the album and they stand as a separate song, the songs on Loving.. Dying... and Other Dirty Things has to be listened to as a whole album.
The album is really mellow and moody and kind of reminds me, and I really hate to make comparisons to other bands, but it reminds me of the sound of 'sensitive' indiepop such from Sarah Records (see Trembling Blue Stars[W♥M] and Keith Girdler[W♥M]). Maybe later on we can cover more Sarah Records, as I couldn't dig up much indiepop stuff on W♥M.
There is one song that doesn't really fit into Dirty Things (although it's the best song on the album) and it's called "I Suppose". The beat/rhythm to this song is clearly too upbeat and cheerful for the record, but ironically it's full of dark and depressing lyrics:
Picture on an empty page
Enjoy yourself on Betty Page
I will swing it with one crack
I can lay you on your back
If I wanted toWrapped you up in linen sheets
Untie the end so they look neat
And say, 'I'd never miss you'
And dabbed my eyes once with a tissue
If I wanted toIt seems like there isn't any good in me
If you just read that, it may have been taken out of context. You should listen to the rest song to draw your own conclusion - but I felt this song is really about a break up of a relationship (not about a serial killer).
Tiger, Tiger is currently giving away his latest album to any inquiries outside of the "green" States. Tell him that W♥M sent you!

by William Blake
TIGER, tiger, burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?
In what distant deeps or skies
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand dare seize the fire?
And what shoulder and what art
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand and what dread feet?
What the hammer? what the chain?
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? What dread grasp
Dare its deadly terrors clasp?
When the stars threw down their spears,
And water'd heaven with their tears,
Did He smile His work to see?
Did He who made the lamb make thee?
Tiger, tiger, burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?
Did anyone else get their CD's yet? I got mine yesterday and I'm going to do a few more listens. I'm enjoying it thus far...it really is best to be listened as a whole.
